4 Shakira VH1 Interview: Live In Your Living Room
Shakira talks about her new performance DVD, her love of AC/DC, and how chickens changed her eating habits.
You're never really sure what to expect from Shakira, and she certainly proves that on her new DVD/CD combo Live and Off the Record. One minute she's belting out a hit like "Whenever, Wherever" from her breakthrough album Laundry Service. Then she kicks fresh life into AC/DC's "Back in Black." Or plays the drums. Or reveals that she "feels nostalgia for things I have never lived."
4 Shakira: Woman Child in the Promised Land
She’s hot, she’s talented, and she’s one of the few people ever to use the word “laundry” in an album title. But what’s it really like being Shakira? As VH1's Being prepared to take a unique look at the Colombian crossover queen, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll sat down to talk fame, family, and the process of learning English. As the chat demonstrates, there’s much more to this young songwriter than meets the eye.

What were the difficulties making this album?
Shakira: When my record company asked, "Do you want to make an album in English?"; I said yeah, right then. But then I realized I was in trouble.
What trouble?
Shakira: I am a songwriter, exactly. To write my own songs for an English album, I had to learn English. I accepted the challenge, but I didn't know if I would be able to reach that goal.

4 Shakira's Feelings on 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
"When I received the news, I think I reacted like the other millions of people, very nervous and confused," said Shakira. When we are filled with this hate, it affects are actions. Therefore, I am worried that a war might occur and that the entire world might suffer for the irresponsible acts committed by a few people."

4 Shakira: dELIAs Interview
How has your culture influenced your music?
I am a blend of several cultures. Through my veins runs Spanish, Lebanese and Italian blood. All of this heritage is a strong influence on the character of my music.
Which bands/singers do you listen to?
I am still very hooked on the classics of rock and roll, British pop bands like The Cure, The Police, The Rolling Stones, and of course, Led Zeppelin.
How do you think America differs from Colombia?
Each country has it's own personality. We have different lifestyles, different cultures, a different language, but we do share the most important characteristics, which are values and principles.

4 Shakira Latina Magazine Interview - July 2001
Well, here it is. You're about to become huge, really huge. Feeling any pressure?
Shakira: I'm always trying to escape from the pressure of expectation. But the biggest pressure is from the people who want this record to be done in 15 days! That kind of pressure can turn into an aggression against your work. But I'm a perfectionist without remedy. I'm not making detergent here; I'm making music. You can't put a knife to the neck of sensibility.

4 Shakira: She is a Star of Latin American Legend
Shakira, the graceful one, has been sneaking up on you-the Grammys, the MTV Video Awards, those Pepsi spots. She's a child prodigy who wrote her first song at age eight, a blond-locked Colombian who speaks three languages and loves only in Spanish.
She's a perfectionist who spends hours in the studio; she needs to be close to nature but her passion is the crackle of electric guitars. She is in the blush of youth, but she's far older than her 24 years. As her countryman, Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote, "Shakira's music has a personal stamp that doesn't look like anyone else's and no one can sing or dance like her, at whatever age, with such an innocent sensuality, one that seems to be of her own invention."
