Bryan Adams Biography:
Bryan Adams acheived popularity in the 1980's as a 'working class rock-and-roller' in the Bruce Springsteen mold. His popularity has waned considerably from the 90's onward, but the tenacious little bugger keeps going anyway. At the end of the 1990's. Adams is a talented photographer. A photograph that he took of Queen Elizabeth II during the Party at the Palace was used as a Canadian postage stamp in 2004.

Bryan Guy Adams was born on November 5, 1959. He is a successful Canadian singer and songwriter. He was born in Kingston, Ontario to British parents, and moved with them throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Bryan Adams met drummer Jim Vallance in 1977 and the two began collaborating as songwriters, and before long their material was being covered by many artists. A&M Records was sent some demos and signed Adams to a recording contract at age 18 for $1. His most famous song is "Summer of 69". Adams rose to popularity in 1983 with the release of his third album, "Cuts Like A Knife". The album made him popular throughout the United States. However, it was his fourth album Reckless, which is referred to as one of the best albums of the eighties that made him an international superstar and gave him his first Grammy nomination. It also sold 4 million copies at the time. In 1987, he released Into the Fire, a more social conscious album. The album yielded a top ten hit "Heat Of The Night", another Grammy nomination and another platinum album to his name. In 1991, however, he released the album "Waking Up The Neighbours" which included the single "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". The song sold more than three million copies in the US, becoming the second best selling single, second only to "We Are The World". It was also Adams's first Academy-Award nomination and Golden Globe nomination as the song was written for the film "Robin Hood: Prince Of Theives" (1991). "Waking Up The Neighbours" sold 4 million albums in the US and garnered him six Grammy nominations (a record for a Canadian). He won one for best song written specifically for a motion picture or television ("(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"). In 1993, he released a greatest hits album, titled "So Far So Good", which spawned a #1 hit, "Please Forgive Me". In 1995, Adams released the single "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?" from the movie "Don Juan DeMarco" (1995), which became his fourth #1 hit and his second Academy-Award nomination. He is one of two non- American singers to have four number one hits and the most successful Canadian singer ever. In 1996, he released the album "18 Til I Die", which has garnered him another 2 Grammy nominations. Later that year he sang and wrote the single, "I Finally Found Someone", a duet with 'Barbra Streisand' for her movie, Mirror Has Two Faces, (1996), later that year. "I Finally Found Someone" became a top ten hit and won Adams his third Academy-Award nomination. He has released three more albums since then, "MTV Unplugged" in 1997, "On A Day Like Today" in 1998 and most recently all of the songs for the Dreamworks animated film "Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimmaron" (2002) in which Adams got his second Golden Globe nomination for "Best song".

His latest album, Room Service was released on September 20, 2004 with "Open Road" being its first single. The second single "Flying" is a typical Bryan Adams ballad. The third and less known single is "Room Service", the title track. This song earned a little bit of air time in Canada as a typical, fun Bryan Adams rock hit.

He is currently working on an acoustic album while touring. A live DVD (possibly called "Live in Lisbon") is expected for September 2005.
Trivia / Timeline:
Had a number one single for 16 weeks (4 months) in Britain with (everything I do) I do it for you.

Of his #1 hits, only one ("Please Forgive Me") was not written for a motion picture.

His 1991 album was declared "non-Canadian" at the time, because some of the songs were co-authored by RJ Lange, who's British. The regulations later changed and Waking Up The Neighbours was declared a Canadian album.

Is a vegetarian.

Refuses to attend the Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) because they, according to his manager, Bruce Allen, "turned their back on the biggest thing to come out" of Canada (referring to Adams' hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You").

Bryan, RJ Lange, and Michael Kamen wrote a song for the 1996 film, 101 Dalmations. The song was not used in the film, however, but is available on Adams' 18 Til I Die album.

Has been nominated for 13 Grammy nominations. Recorded "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" in Spanish in 1992. Has received the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia for outstanding Canadian citizenship.

He may be Canada's most successful pop/rock singer, but his parents were both British citizens and he currently resides in Britain. However, he still has a studio in Canada.

Refused to allow his song "Only the Strong Survive", from his album "Into the Fire", to be used for the film Top Gun (1986), because he felt that the movie glorified war.

His fourth album, Reckless, is the best-selling Canadian album of all time. He received the Diamond Sales Award (equivalent of a platinum award in the US) for the album, a first for a Canadian.
