Date of birth: 26 March 1948
Place of Birth (Location): Yonkers, New York, USA
Nickname: Demon Of Screamin
Height: 5' 9½" (1.77 m)

Aerosmith is a long-running hard rock band, originally forming in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1970s, and enjoying a later resurgence in popularity in the late 1980s and mid-1990s. The original lineup included Steven Tyler (lead vocals), Joe Perry (guitar) and Tom Hamilton (bass guitar), soon adding Ray Tabano as a second guitarist, then replacing him with Brad Whitford (formerly of Earth Inc.). Tyler, who was originally a drummer and singer, became a full-time vocalist when drummer Joey Kramer joined. After some local success doing live shows, Aerosmith signed with Columbia Records in 1972 and issued a debut album, Aerosmith that included a minor hit single, 'Dream On'. After constant touring, the band released Get Your Wings (1974), which did quite well on the charts.

Aerosmith Biography:
Aerosmith accomplished the amazing feat of being one of the most popular hard rock acts of the 1970s, then coming back to be one of the biggest of the late '80s and '90s. They formed in 1970 when vocalist (and drummer at the time).
Steven Tyler joined up with former Jam Band members Joe Perry (guitar) and Tom Hamilton (bass). Joey Kramer (drums) and Ray Tabano (guitar) joined to make the group a five piece, and Steven Tyler gave up the drums. Brad Whitford replaced Tabano soon after the formation of Aerosmith, and finalized the band's long time lineup. They became popular in the hometown of Boston and were signed with Columbia Records after a show in New York City.

Aerosmith's self titled debut was released in 1973 and its single, "Dream On," was a minor hit. After national touring for their second album, Get Your Wings, their third release, 1975's Toys In The Attic, became their breakthrough album. The album's singles, "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way", were hits. "Dream On" was re-released in 1976 and was a hit. Their subsequent albums, Rocks, Draw The Line and Live! Bootleg, were all big sellers.

After the relatively unsuccessful Night In The Ruts album, Joe Perry left the band. He was replaced by Jimmy Crespo in 1980. Brad Whitford also left in 1981, and was replaced by Rick Dufay on Rock In A Hard Place, which sold even worse than the previous album. By 1985, Perry and Whitford were back in the band and they signed with Geffen Records. Their Geffen album, Done With Mirrors wasn't a huge hit, but the song "Let the Music Do the Talking" did garner some radio and MTV airplay.

In 1986, they appeared on rap group Run-DMC's massive hit remake of "Walk This Way". The following year, Aerosmith had their first hit in many years, "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)." The song was from their comeback album, Permanent Vacation. It began series of hit albums and singles including Pump's "Love in an Elevator" and "Janie's Got a Gun", and Get A Grip's "Livin' on the Edge" and "Cryin'." Their albums continue to sell strongly.

Aerosmith signed to Columbia Records in the early 1990s, but had to complete two contractual albums for Geffen before recording for the new label. The next album was Nine Lives, and was plagued with personnel problems, including the firing of manager Tim Collins. The reviews were mixed, and Nine Lives fell down the charts quickly. This was followed by a series of late 1990s albums that sold respectably, but have shown the beginning of a second decline in popularity and critical respect. However, Aerosmith's biggest hit of the '90s, and its only #1 single to date, was the love theme from the film Armageddon, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing (conceived by Joe Perry and Diane Warren, although Warren did get songwriting credit).
The band entered its next decade with 'Just Push Play' in 2001, which charted well.

Their long-promised blues album, Honkin' on Bobo was released March 30, 2004 on Columbia. Honkin' on Bobo continues to be a success for the resurgeance of blues and roots music across the US and Europe and was followed up by the accompanying live DVD in December 2004.
