311 (three eleven) formed in late 1988 in Omaha, Nebraska as a rapcore/punk rock/reggae group. The members of 311 are Nick Hexum (lead vocals, guitar), Douglas Vincent "SA" Martinez (vocals, turntable, programming), Aaron Wills (P-Nut) (bass), Tim Mahoney (lead guitar), and Chad Sexton (drums). All five of the members grew up in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1970s.

311 Biography / History:
Hip-Hop/Reggae influenced rock band 311 was formed in 1988 by Nick Hexum (vocals/guitar), S.A. Martinez (vocals), Tim Mahoney (guitar), Chad Sexton (drums) and P-Nut (bass).
In 1990 and 1991, 311 released three records on their own independent record label, What Have You Records. These records, titled Dammit!, Hydroponic, and Unity, and alongside their energetic live shows, launched their career in the mid west after which they moved out to California in an attempt to be signed onto a major label.
They signed with Capricorn Records in 1991. Their first CD, Music was released in 1993 and eventually went gold. The following year, they released their second album, Grassroots, Their biggest selling CD was their self-titled release in 1995 (also known as The Blue Album) which went triple-platinum, and also found mainstream success with the singles "Down" and "All Mixed Up".

311's breakthrough was 1995's 311 (aka "Blue" album), which sold three million copies and had the hits "All Mixed Up" and "Down." 1997's double album Transistor followed, along with 1999's Soundsystem. Their 2001 album Chaos spawned three hit singles, "You Wouldn't Believe", "Amber" and I'll Be Here Awhile". In 2003, 311 released Evolver.

311 Day: Live in New Orleans (2004)
March 11th is a special day in 311's existence, as it sees the band celebrating their doppelganger in the yearly calendar by staging a huge concert. Taking place in New Orleans, this show from 2004 offers all the excitement of the 311 concert experience, as the band works its way through an awesome selection of material from their back catalogue. But that's not all, because the camera crew manages to sneak backstage for a welcome look at the men behind the music, with a detailed profile of the 311 boys. The event was such a success that the mayor of New Orleans declared March 11th be christened "311 Day" in the city, and on this evidence it's not hard to see why!

An infectious hybrid of rock, funk, and hip-hop sounds, 311 have sold millions of records since their formation in the early 1990's.
