Mandy Moore Profile: Childhood, Music, Acting Career
American singer and actress, bubble gum pop star Amanda Leigh Moore was born on April 10, 1984, in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA to Stacy (a former newspaper reporter) and Don Moore (a pilot for American Airlines). She grew up in Florida.
Mandy Moore was inspired to pursue a career as a vocal artist after attending a stage performance of Oklahoma! and witnessing the entrancing effect the lead performer had on the audience. Her interest in singing grew after seeing the musical Oklahoma!; Moore was also encouraged to perform by her maternal grandmother, who was her inspiration. She sang the national anthem at several athletic events, a FedEx employee spotted her and sent her demo to Epic Records. She was signed with the record company at the age of fourteen and toured with The Backstreet Boys throughout 1999.
Moore's first album, So Real, was released in December of that year and reached number thirty-one on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart. At the time of the album's release, reviewers considered she the latest in a series of heavily-marketed female singers described as "pop princesses", akin to Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Britney Spears. Still, So Real was certified platinum in the US by early 2000, and sold nearly one million copies. Her debut single "Candy", which peaked just outside the top forty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100[13] and was certified gold.
