Detailed Biography of Katie Holmes: Full Biography
Katherine Noelle Holmes was born on December 18, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio, USA. Her father Martin is a lawyer and her mother Kathy is a homemaker and a philanthropist. Three older sisters, Tamera, Holly, Nancy, and one older brother named Martin, Jr.

She grew up gorgeous, first acted in high-school productions, and at 15 she was attending modeling school. The school considered her talent promising, and sent her to a competition for aspiring models in New York. Katie competed in the International Modeling and Talent Association by dancing, singing, and reciting a monologue from To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). She won many awards by the end of that time in New York, but said she didn't want to model because it wasn't challenging enough. At seventeen, Katie went to Los Angeles to audition for movies.

In 1997, on her second audition, Katie was cast in the movie, Ang Lee's The Ice Storm. Holmes' role as the object of Tobey Maguire's affections caught the attention of Kevin Williamson. After Kevin Williamson received her audition tape for his new show, "Dawson's Creek" (1998). Holmes appeared in her second film,  teen conspiracy thriller Disturbing Behavior (1998). Her next venture, Doug Liman's 1999 Go, found greater favor with the critics, she won Best Breakthrough Female Performance in the 1999 MTV Movie Awards.

In 2000, Katie starred next to Michael Douglas in Wonder Boys. Her first leading role came with Abandon (2002). She played Katie Burke, a college student, who is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of her boyfriend who vanished two years prior.

After the long-anticipated end of Dawson's Creek, Holmes could be seen in the psychological Phone Booth with Colin Farrell, and in 2003's Pieces of April, which found the young actress in the part of a punky family outcast. In 2004, Holmes starred alongside Michael Keaton in director Forest Whitaker's First Daughter.

Katie Holmes played Bruce Wayne's girlfriend in the 2005 hit Batman Begins, but her career took an unexpected twist a few weeks before that film opened, when 26-year-old Katie was suddenly in love with 42-year-old Tom Cruise, and he was in love with her.
