Half Irish and half German Former model, green-eyed blonde Katherine Marie Heigl was born on November 24, 1978 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. She has two older brothers, Holt and John; and older sister, Meg. Her brother Jason died when Katherine was young.

Katherine Heigl's career began when she started modeling. Once modeling agency named Wilhelmina, got hold of photos of a then nine-year old Katherine, which had been taken by a visiting aunt for a hair care product she had invented. Katherine appeared in magazine advertisements and a Sears catalogue. She made her television debut with a role in a Cheerios commercial. At the age of 12, she played in "That Night" (1992), her big-screen debut, which starred Juliette Lewis and C. Thomas Howell. In 1993, she appeared in Steven Soderbergh's critically acclaimed Depression-era drama "King of the Hill". Her first leading role is as a rebellious teenager alongside Gérard Depardieu in My Father the Hero (1994).
