Kate Beckinsale was born on 26 July 1973 in London, England. Her mother and father, Judy and Richard were both actors.Kate's mother is Judy Loe, a British actress. Her father was Richard Beckinsale (b. 6-Jul-1947, d. 19-Mar-1979), who starred in British television series as "Rising Damp", "Porridge" and "The Lovers" during the 1970s. He died in 1979 at the age of 32. Her stepfather, Roy Battersby, is a British TV director. Kate's stepsister Samantha played a firefighter in the action show London's Burning, other British series and several movies.
Kate Beckinsale was anorexic, weighing 70 pounds at the age of 15. In her teens, Kate twice won the British bookseller W. H. Smith Young Writers' competition, once for three poems.
In 1991, she co-starred with Judy Davis and Sam Neill in the World War II television movie "One Against the Wind". Same year, Kate began attending Oxford University's New College, majoring in French and Russian literature.
Kate Beckinsale decided to go into show business. Her first film was Much Ado About Nothing, with Denzel Washington and Emma Thompson.
