Highest paid actress in film history, left-handed Julie Fiona Roberts was born on October 28, 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia, USA. Here she grew up surrounded by the theater people who attended her parents' Actors and Writers Workshop in their Atlanta home. Julia Roberts is Sister of Lisa Roberts Gillan and Eric Roberts. Both she and her brother Eric Roberts were interested in acting.
Her father died of cancer when Julia was 10. Julia played clarinet in a band. She attended Griffin Middle School and then Campbell High School.
After high school, Julia Roberts moved to New York, but did not catch a break right away even though she did manage to score an agent.
In 1988 she was cast in TV's Baja Oklahoma, the movies Satisfaction and Mystic Pizza (1988) - This role got her a major part in the movie Steel Magnolia’s, along side Sally Field, Shirley Maclaine and Dolly Parton . Julia nominated for Oscar.
Julia Roberts made her film debut as a supporting actress her brother’s movie Blood Red (1989). In 1990 she starred in the life-after-death movie Flatliners with Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland. Sutherland attracted her attention and became the first of her many high profile romances. Same year Julia had her greatest success to date starring opposite Richard Gere in Director Garry Marshall's sentimental romantic comedy Pretty Woman.
