Destiny's Child Summary:
American R&B group Destiny's Child was formed in 1990 as a novelty group of pre-teen girls; by the late 1990s they had become a superstar female R&B vocal quartet. The group's members are Kelly Rowland, her cousin Beyoncé Knowles and newcomer Michelle Williams. (Two earlier members of Destiny's Child, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, left the group in 2000 and later formed their own band, Angel.) The group's top singles include 1997's "No, No, No," 1999's "Bills, Bills, Bills" and the 2000 hit "Say My Name" and their albums include Destiny's Child (1997), The Writing's On the Wall (1999) and Survivor (2001). After a 2002 tour the group split up, at least temporarily, to pursue individual projects.
Destiny's Child has accumulated record sales of over 46 million albums and singles (over 60 million records sold when combining the solo sales of Knowles, Rowland and Williams alongside the group's success). On June 12, 2005 they announced on tour in Barcelona that they would no longer perform together, instead pursuing individual careers in music, theater, television and film.
