Irish actor Colin James Farrell was born on May 31, 1976 in Castleknock (at the edge of Phoenix Park), Dublin, Ireland. Colin's father Eamon was a famous soccer player, his mother forced him to take dancing lessons. His mother Rita's father was a chauffeur, while Colin's father Eamon and his uncle Tommy both played football for Shamrock Rovers. At 16, love hit him for the first time (disregarding the earlier Monroe infatuation), when he fell for Amelia, the young daughter of a Portuguese family in Castleknock. It would end tragically when Colin, a serial fighter and consummate gadabout, had over 20 boys at school after his blood, his parents moving him on to Gormanston boarding school. At 17, he auditioned for the band Boyzone, but was rejected. Colin instead went on tour across Ireland with a troupe of line-dancers. While working as a dancer, he was asked to film a commercial for Cadbury candies, and when he received a hefty paycheck for a few hours work, he decided to pursue acting as a career. He traveled to Australia, where he waited tables, drank heavily, and made his dramatic debut at The Performance Place, an open-air amateur dramatics space in a Sydney park.

Colin Farrell returned to Dublin and, at his brother's urging, enrolled at Ireland's Gaiety School of Acting. Farrell hated Gaiety, where teachers told him he mumbled too much and would never be a success on stage. He dropped out when he landed a regular role on Ballykissangel, a popular Irish television show set in a rural town full of colorful characters.

In July 2005, Colin Farrell sued his former girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain, adult Internet company ICG (Internet Commerce Group), and porn producer David Hans Schmidt over the rights to a nearly-fifteen minute sex tape that Farrell had made with Narain in 2003. It was made at Narain's apartment and features the two engaged in intercourse and oral sex. Colin Farrell claims he understood the tape as being "strictly private and confidential between them," but it was leaked to Schmidt and Internet Commerce Group who tried to release it publicly. A Los Angeles judge issued a temporary restraining order barring the sale, distribution, or display of the tape. In the past, Schmidt had distributed or tried to distribute nude material of other celebrities, including Tonya Harding, Paula Jones, and Fred Durst.This tape showed explicit pictures of Farrell's penis and him performing oral sex and anal penetration with Nicole.
