Director Bryan Singer Talks About "Superman Returns":
Bryan Singer’s Interest in Superman
“I am adopted and I’m an American, and I’m an only child, and Superman was you know, these three things except what interests me is that he is the ultimate immigrant and he carries his - what makes him different, his special heritage - he carries it with pride. And the suit, in the sense of the suit, he’s very idealistic. Unlike Wolverine [who] is very cynical, Superman is extremely idealistic and kind of represents a bit of what America is and the pitfalls one experiences in their idealism, so I very much like the character. I find him very pleasant. I’d like to think that there were people like Superman or aliens like Superman that existed. Plus, he can do anything.”

Will Brandon Routh Impersonate Christopher Reeve?:
“No. We looked at some of the original ‘Superman’ just to take a look at it together. But by no means did I ever say, ‘Act like Christopher Reeve.’ It’s weird with Brandon. One moment he’s a dead ringer for Christopher Reeve, the next minute you see that he’s completely different. So it kind of captures moments of that. He’ll have moments where you’ll recall the first film and moments where he’s his own Clark. He’s his own Superman.”

Bryan Singer on the Reaction to the “Superman Returns Clip:
I think, Brandon Routh sells it, definitely. If you were to meet Brandon in the suit, that’s when it really… You feel like, ‘That’s Superman. Okay, I get it.’ I think, it will be a good reaction. You know, you can please some of the people some of the time…"

"It’s hard, you know, when you just see a photograph of it, it represents one thing and people interpret it. It’s just a photograph. But when you see it in motion, how we’re treating it with lighting and color and this is only our first pass at it, you know, in color time. I mean this was done sort of, this little piece was done on the fly, basically created on a small screen and very quickly for this."

News on Superman Returns:
'Superman' Gets Stamp of Approval From Critics
The first Superman film in nearly 20 years, Superman Returns, has received rave reviews from America's leading movie critics. Superman Returns stars Brandon Routh as the Man Of Steel, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, and Kevin Spacey as villain Lex Luthor. Trade paper Variety praised director Bryan Singer's film as "grandly conceived, sensitively drawn and never self-consciously hip. It is sincere, with an artistic elegance and a genuine emotional investment in the material." The Hollywood Reporter says Superman Returns is "a heartfelt Superman movie that plays to a broad audience." Superman Returns, the first Man Of Steel movie since 1987's Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, opens in the US on June 28.

Will Superman Return Again?
Director Bryan Singer has acknowledged that the less-than-stellar performance of Superman Returns has made prospects for another Man of Steel sequel a bit "iffy." The Associated Press quotes him as saying, "We haven't concluded a deal," but if a sequel gets a green light from Warner Bros, "the intention is to do it for [release in] 2009." Separately, Singer told Britain's Empire magazine, "Now that the character is established, I'd like to take the opportunity to bring in a more threatening element, a more terrible, foreboding element." Superman Returns, starring Kevin Spacey, Brandon Routh, and Kate Bosworth, has taken in $178 million at the domestic box office, below such other summer hits as The Da Vinci Code, X-Men: The Last Stand, Cars, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
