Detailed Biography for Brandon Routh: Full Biography
Brandon James Routh was born on 9 October 1979 in Des Moines, Iowa, USA. His father Ron was a carpenter. Both of his parents play music in their spare time. Brandon grew up in Norwalk, Iowa. During his childhood, Brandon thought that a full-time acting career was unrealistic, citing his small-town background.

Brandon Routh attended Norwalk High School. In high school, Brandon was in swing choir and played the piano and trumpet. He was fond of the Superman films and comic books during his younger years. Brandon has appeared in numerous amateur stage productions in Iowa, and briefly attended college before deciding to try acting as a career.

Brandon Routh attended the University of Iowa for a year, aspiring to be a writer. He starred in several productions at the Norwalk Theater of Performing Arts during this time, modelled and acted in order to earn his tuition fee.

Career - Early years:
Brandon left the University and moved to New York City and then Los Angeles, where he pursued a full-time acting career, first appearing as an extra in Christina Aguilera's music video for "What a Girl Wants". His first major role was a 1999 episode of a long-gone sit-com, Odd Man Out (ABC television series). He had a four-episode role on the third season of MTV's nighttime soap opera, Undressed (2000). Brandon has also appeared in single episodes of The Gilmore Girls, Cold Case, and Will & Grace. During this time, he shared an apartment with his sister, and worked as a bartender at a popular bowling alley in Hollywood, Lucky Strike Lanes.

Brandon Routh as New Superman:
In 2004, after meeting with Director Bryan Singer, Brandon Routh taped a number of screen tests and began costume fittings before receiving word that he'd been officially hired to play Superman. Of course, a compelling superhero requires an intimidating villain, so when Spacey (star of Singer's first hit), "The Usual Suspects," arrived on the "Superman" set in Australia, he stayed in character as Lex Luthor even when the cameras weren't rolling. When Singer came aboard the project, however, he insisted that an unknown actor be cast in the part, in the tradition of the casting of the best-known film Superman, Christopher Reeve. Filming for Superman Returns began in Australia in February 2005, was released in the U.S. on June 28, 2006.
