Lucy Liu Profile: Childhood, Films, Acting Career
Lucy Alexis Liu was born on 2 December 1968, in Queens, New York, USA to Chinese parents. She grew up in New York. Lucy Liu gained a degree in Asian languages and cultures from the University of Michigan, where she also studied acting, voice, and dance, earned a degree in Asian languages and cultures from the University of Michigan, where she also studied. Her first professional job was playing a waitress on Beverly Hills 90210, something that led to more substantial work on various TV shows, including a regular part on the TV series Pearl.
She gained various parts in television before landing her breakthrough in 1998 (she credited as Ling Woo on Ally McBeal). In 1999, for her work as Ling Woo, she was nominated for an Emmy (as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series). Liu stayed on until the end of Ally McBeal in 2002.
She has starred in films Play It to the Bone, Shanghai Noon, and, alongside Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, in Charlie's Angels: The Movie, the sequel to the film opened to poor reviews and box office. Lucy Liu starred with Antonio Banderas in Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002). 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle placed Liu firmly back inside the spotlight, though she was somewhat overshadowed by the toothy blonde glint that is Cameron Diaz. She is perhaps most famous for her role as O-Ren Ishii in director Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill films (2003), she won an MTV Movie Award.
