Detailed Biography of Kate Bosworth: Full Biography
Catherine Ann Bosworth was born on 2 January 1983, in Los Angeles, California, USA to Hal Bosworth (an executive for Talbots) and Patricia Potter (a homemaker). Kate was born with sectoral heterochromia, resulting in a hazel section at the bottom of her right blue eye, while the left is completely blue. Her family frequently moved around the country because of her father's job, and Bosworth grew up mainly on the East Coast, spending the rest of her youth in Darien, Connecticut and Cohasset, Massachusetts.
While attending Cohasset high school (which she graduated from in 2001), Bosworth learned to speak Spanish and was a member of the National Honor Society. By the age of 14, she was a champion equestrian, learned of a casting call for a movie about horses.
Kate Bosworth's first film role came after an open casting call in New York for the supporting part of "Judith" in the 1998, Robert Redford film The Horse Whisperer. The film's producers needed someone who was already an experienced horse rider, leading to Bosworth's successful audition for the role. Kate subsequently had a supporting part in the 2000 film Remember the Titans. In 2000, she landed the role of the bratty sister in the feature film The Newcomers. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles in hopes of obtaining easier access to auditions and better film parts. Bosworth's previous acting experience had consisted of singing at county fairs in California and acting in a community theatre production of "Annie".
Kate Bosworth's first leading role was in 2002's surfing movie, Blue Crush. Between 2002 and 2005, she appeared in a number of widely released films. Bosworth starred as actress Sandra Dee in Beyond the Sea and played the lead role in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, opposite Josh Duhamel. She also portrayed Chali, a Hare Krishna, in a film adaption of Myla Goldberg's acclaimed novel Bee Season, about a dysfunctional Jewish family.
In 2005, Kate Bosworth was cast as reporter Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, Superman Returns. Her Beyond the Sea co-star, Kevin Spacey, who also appears in Superman Returns, suggested Bosworth for the role to director Bryan Singer. The film was released on June 28, 2006. Bosworth will next appear in the Great Depression-themed independent film drama, Seasons of Dust, which will also star Bosworth's current boyfriend, Orlando Bloom.
